The NearFi products from Phoenix Contact enable a new contactless transmission technology for protocol-independent Ethernet communication. The transmission takes place via an air gap between the two couplers. Up to 50 W and 100 Mbit/s can be transmitted simultaneously through this gap.
The air space between the two couplers can also be replaced by materials such as glass, plastic or wood. This enables a wide range of possible applications. Probably the greatest advantage of this technology, however, is that there is no classic wear due to mechanical movement.
The housing is equipped with two M12 connectors so that Ethernet and voltage can flow simultaneously. The housing also has an IP65 protection class and is thus protected against dirt, dust and water jets.
Getting NearFi transmission up and running is very simple. Both a base and remote coupler are required. Both do not require separate configuration before use and can therefore be deployed just as quickly as conventional connectors. The couplers visually signal by a green LED indicator that the mating has worked properly. The couplers do not have to be exactly on top of each other.
Because of the inductive energy, the couplers can also supply other end devices such as I/O stations or switches with energy.
